2002 Bavaria 34 Survey.
Customer Feedback – “Boatcare Yacht Surveys in the person of Simon May carried out a pre-purchase survey for me on a Bavaria 34 sailing yacht . I attended the survey and I found Simon to be very knowledgeable on the subject, able to communicate clearly to me the details of what he was doing and why, in terms that I could understand easily. He was very thorough, providing me with feedback on the boat condition on the day and in the written report within a very short timeframe. He attended the test sail with me carried out on the same day, providing me with his observations on the condition of the sails etc. and trying out the various onboard systems. Boatcare Yacht Surveys were called to a problem on a Sunseeker that Boatcare had previously surveyed, the stern drives had suffered significant corrosion and now needed to be replaced at considerable cost. This had happened in a matter of weeks and at first the cause was a mystery. We tested the boat, the electrical systems, the mooring, the water, the piles, the river bed and then the anodes – the machinery had been just serviced and freshwater magnesium anodes fitted instead of salt water zinc anodes. The result accelerated degradation from corrosion and two new stern drives.
Always check your anodes are suitable for the home mooring water conditions – Salt = Zinc. Brackish = Alluminium. Fresh = Magnesium. If in doubt, contact Boatcare Yacht Surveys.
